Gratitude Gala

The Gratitude Gala Awards dinner celebrates and recognizes community members who actively support diversity and inclusion.

      The Gratitude Gala’s highlights and honours:

    • Indigenous Peoples in Canada for welcoming us onto their land,
    • Newcomer success stories, and
    • Individuals, employers and organizations who promote and exemplify diversity and inclusion

      All funds raised at the Gratitude Gala Awards dinner support IDEA’s Youth Programs, which focus on developing the next generation of citizens.

  • The Gratitude Gala Awards provides a networking opportunity for private businesses, non-profit organizations, government agencies and newcomers, to get together and meet in a social setting.

“I come from a country where people all have a similar appearance, so when I arrived in Manitoba, I was impressed by its multiculturalism,” he said. “I wanted to do my part to promote multiculturalism in the community. Music seemed like the obvious solution because I’d been in a musical group with members of my family back in the Congo. We decided to re-form the group here.”

Award Categories

Do you know someone in our community that deserves recognition? Nominate them for the Gratitude Gala Awards! We recognize individuals, organizations, and businesses in the following categories:


Gratitude Award
Honours a native leader for welcoming us into Canada.

Youth Award
Recognizes a refugee or immigrant between the ages of 14 and 29 who has made an outstanding contribution or significant achievement in one or more of the following areas: academics, arts and culture, sports, community and volunteer activities.

Malayika Award
Recognizes a refugee or immigrant who has demonstrated dedication, compassion and leadership in the area of immigrant services and has made important contributions to enhancing the lives of refugees or immigrants in Manitoba.

Ubuntu Award
Recognizes a Canadian who has demonstrated dedication, compassion and leadership in the areas of immigrant services and has made important contributions to enhancing the lives of refugees or immigrants in Manitoba.

Rafiki Award
Recognizes an employer, or non-profit organization that has made outstanding achievements in implementing diversity initiatives in the workplace or has made significant contributions by caring about refugees or immigrants in Manitoba.

Immigrant Entrepreneur Award
A newcomer who has achieved success in the creation or operation of a business in Manitoba.


Award recipients are recognized in a ceremony at the Gratitude Gala as well as on the IDEA Inc. website.
